"ONE OF THE MOST MYSTERIOUS" TIBIRKE 5, TISVILDE, DENMARK 33 DEGREE |
| The small costal town of Tisvilde is considered "one of the most mysterious" in Denmark. There are many prehistoric gravesites, as well as Viking burial grounds. The town's church is built on top of an ancient pagan site known as "Tibirke 5" and there is a "Holy Spring" nearby. The town even has its own saint, Saint Helena, whose body was found on the beach. Tisvilde's Troll Forest has been considered haunted by "little people" for many centuries, and over the nearby bogs, strange balls of light dart about at night. The apparition of a "White Lady" is seen in the woods around Tisvilde, and she seems to be made out of moonlight. The stronger the moonlight, the more real she seems. Locals believe the unidentified apparition could be the so-called "Snow Queen", "Hollie", "Frue Holle". According to Norse pagan tradition, she is the goddess of the dead, protector of the souls of the dead, and the unborn souls of children. International Directory of Haunted Places, pp.105-106. |
